Shipwrecked

I came up with the idea for this painting from a couple of different ways. The first was a song I heard.

Pretty funny right? That song I think spoke well to me because of where I am right now in my life.

I go to school at Brigham Young University Idaho. I try to play it cool but as a 26-year-old unmarried man I feel a lot of pressure from a lot of sources to find a wife and settle down and get married. I want to get married and have a wife sure, but it’s finding the wife that I don’t want to do.

I just hate Mormon dating so much. Everyone makes such a huge deal out of every little thing. If you ask a girl out people start asking about where things are going and what is going on with you two and blah bla bla.

You don’t have much privacy in a singles ward.

You don’t have much privacy at BYU-I either.

When a relationship ends word gets around fast. I don’t know about most of you but breakups for me have never gone so well. It’s pretty awful when everyone you live/work/go to class and church with knows the story of what you did to screw everything up.

I was thinking about this when I originally came up with the sketch that led to this post. I was just thinking about how there are girls all around but none of them seem to be interested and then the ones you are interested in aren’t really interested in you.

Ah well I’m tired of complaining. I hope you guys enjoy!

  1. I love this! First off this piece is really cool, I love the style and colors and characters. It's one of those that tells a story. Secondly, the inspiration of dating at byui is so accurate and makes this piece more personal. I wish Mormon culture wasn't so shitty.
